about THIS LIFE I LIVE

In January 2014, my late wife Joey and I were expecting a baby and decided to take a year off music to just be here at our farm and be present with our new little girl Indiana. We were going to simplify our lives and homestead…learning how to grow more of our own food and become more self-sufficient. At the same time, I decided to get out a camera and start capturing life as it was happening day-by-day and began writing a personal blog that I called THIS LIFE LIVE: scenes from one man’s extraordinary, ordinary life.

Although we were taking a break from our music career and seeking more from less, we believed that on this journey God was going to give us a great story… and He truly has.

It’s now more than 10 years later, and although the story I have been part of has had many difficult twists and turns and also incredible high and low moments…. I have continued writing and sharing our story in different iterations of this blog.

My hope is that something in what I share in This Life I Live might be an encouragement to you in the life that you are living.

about RORY

As a father, farmer, author and artist, I’ve learned that what I am most is a liver and teller of stories. What began with a guitar and a pen & paper, the stories I capture and share have over time, crossed into many different mediums… from music and film to books to digital media.

As a singer and a songwriter who’s been blessed to have written a few #1 songs and a Grammy award on my bookshelf, and as an author of Memoir and children’s books that have at times been on the NYT Bestseller lists…. for all the stories I tell, the one that means the most to me is the one I have had to chance to tell with this life that I’m living and the choices I make.

I am the father of three daughters Heidi, Hopie and Indiana… and am now remarried to Rebecca, who has been and continues to be, a gift from above. Rebe and Indy and I live on a 100 acre historic farm an hour south of Nashville, Tennessee where we continue to grow much of our food, homeschool Indiana, and daily turn our hopes, dreams and lives over to God… in awe of what He’s done, and excited to see where He is leading us.
