starting a podcast
The THIS LIFE I LIVE Podcast launched this week. This is episode one...
Today I launched a podcast version of This Life I Live.
The first episode is an interview with my friend and neighbor Warren Barfield. He was a very successful contemporary Christian artist in the early 2000’s, but in 2017, he walked away from his music career and in time moved to a farm about 10 minutes from ours.
In our conversation, we covered a lot of ground… from the reason he walked away from it all, why and how he picked us his guitar again, and even our own challenging journey to the friendship that we have now.
I’m excited to share this interview because in it, Warren not only shares some of his story, but he vulnerably shares his heart and the incredible work God has been doing in his life the last few years.
I’m also excited about the launch of the This Life I Live Podcast.
I’m not exactly sure what it’s going to be yet, or how it will evolve, but it’s something I’ve had on why heart to begin doing for a long time.
People around me have been encouraging me to start a podcast for awhile now and though I have messed around with it a time or two, until last couple of months I hadn’t actually made much any headway in deciding on a space to make it in, putting together the gear and set to film it in, or even fully making the decision to start making and sharing one.
But this past Fall, with the help of lots of different friends, we began turning the old milkhouse here at the farm into a podcast studio.
It had been the building where they milked cows for years and years when I bought the farm in 1999. And although the daily milking logs from the 1970’s are still hanging on the door, it had been abandoned by the time we found our way here.
It started as a play/clubhouse for Heidi and Hopie and their friends for the first year or two, then it became a makeshift workout room, then in time an office/songwriting studio, and later on a a video editing suite. The last couple of years it’s been pretty much empty. Full of junk, and without any purpose.
So besides clearing everything that was in there out, there was much to do to transform it into a usable, film-able space. By late November, we were pretty much ready and the weekend of my last concerts in early December, we began filming our first couple of interviews, that are just now starting to be released.
With our upcoming move for an extended stay to Texas, the studio space will be shutdown and the podcast will pause for a bit, while I figure out a spot there close to where we’ll be living, to continue making more of them. But I have a feeling, that won’t take long and the podcast will resume fairly quickly.
That being said, it just may change. The kinds of interviews I do there may be different…partly because I won’t be around music industry folks there, and also because I’m going to be able to spend a lot more time delving into this journey of growing and sharing my faith, and get to learn other people stories and testimonies of how God has worked in their lives, which is something I am also excited about.
Besides interviews, I’d like to experiment with sharing more stories and this podcast may be a good way to do that. And because I’m a writer, I may write and share some essays, or some stories behind the songs we’ve written or recorded through the years,… You get the point. Once that door is unlocked, and you have a dedicated spot (or two) to film and record them, who knows what God might put on your heart to make or do.
And this This Life I Live podcast may spin off into another one that I make and host at some point too, with a different name and vision. Who knows, maybe I can even talk my wife Rebecca into hosting one herself (I may have already mentioned to her, and got an encouraging response…).
Anyway, this is a pretty fun and exciting next step for me. I hope you enjoy, and even more so, will be encouraged by the podcast. Thanks for listening and watching.

Be sure to follow Warren HERE on Instagram, and keep up with his upcoming concerts and events at www.warrenbarfield.com
PS: If we’ve set everything up correctly, each new episode should automatically post on pretty much every one of the different platforms where you might listen to Podcasts: Apple, Spotify, Youtube, etc.. If there’s one that you listen to that doesn’t have it, send me a note and we’ll try to get this podcast to it.

I have a comment to make regarding the move to Waco for about 6 months. That is the home of the Homestead Heritage which I have read about that is a cult. For the sake of Indy and your daughters have you seriously considered this stage in your life? I have read stories of people who have "escaped" the lifestyle imposed on them and the consequences of not going all the way in their beliefs. It does not seem like a doctrinally sound religion or true worship of God. The man who runs is very wealthy and he is buying up a lot of land to build more "homesteads". They separate families from the outside world and force restrictions on people on how to live everyday life! Anyway not trying to be mean but it does concern me that this so called religion is taking over people's lives and they just swallow it up without thinking it through. God bless. The truth is the way and that is through Jesus Christ and not through men.
Are you kidding me me
